WSET LEVEL 1 AWARD IN SPIRITS – ONLINE COURSE

Learn the basics of spirits in your own time, with this short four-week (4) introductory online course, suitable for people who have little to no prior knowledge of spirits. This course is ideal for those beginning a career in the industry or pursuing an interest in spirits. 

This course is run through WSET Global, and the online educator is provided by WSET.

This course is run through WSET Global with the guidance and support of a WSET educator during the 4 weeks. Students can also interact with the educator at any time through the online portal.

Enrolment

Course enrolment for Online WSET courses closes nine (9) working days prior to course commencement date. For further clarity, bookings must be received by 6 pm AWST, nine (9) working days prior to the course starting on the stated Monday.  Any booking received after this time will not be processed.

Course Delivery

Delivered in English via the WSET Online Classroom platform, this official digital course, administered by the WSET Global, offers total schedule flexibility, free from set timings. You can participate at your convenience, interacting with fellow students from around the world as well as with a Certified Educator assigned by the WSET Global.

Course Duration

This course is a 4-week, 7 module online learning programme with educator support available for this time. The course is asynchronous: You are free to complete the modules at your own pace during this 4-week window. It is recommended that the course modules should be followed in sequential order during this 4-week window. The course material should take about 6 hours in total to complete, plus revision time. Regular access and participation in the course online activities is essential for this mode of study. After that, you'll still have access to the content for one year, although you won't be able to participate in the discussion forum and interact with your classmates anymore.

Course Materials

All Level 1 study materials (including readings, weekly tasks, group tasting area, multiple-choice feedback tests, videos) are available online.

Spirit Samples

Spirit samples are not included in the course fee.

Students will be provided a list of recommended spirits to purchase to assist with their tasting practice.

What you will learn

Through a series of self-guided online modules, you will discover the main styles and types of spirits and will learn to taste using the WSET Systematic Approach to Tasting (SAT) to develop an understanding of the key factors affecting flavours and aromas.

  • How to serve spirits
  • How to taste & describe spirits using the WSET Level 1 Systematic Approach to Tasting Spirits® (SAT)

Students who successfully pass the exam, will receive the globally recognised WSET Level 1 Award in Spirit certificate and pin.

Assessment

The exam comprises 30 multiple-choice questions that must be completed within 45 minutes. To pass, you must answer at least 70% of the questions correctly. Assessments for this exam is in person or held online.

Exam date

The exam is taken online (Remote Invigilation). The RI exam date is indicated when enrolling for the course.

You must be 18 years or older to enrol. 

Cancellation

Cancellations notified in writing more than 14 days before the program begins are eligible for a full refund. 

Cancellations notified within 14 days of the program will not receive a refund.

If a program is cancelled by The Spirit of Wine, you are entitled to a full refund. If you register and pay within 14 days of the course commencement date you will not be eligible for a refund.
